If you’ve followed a Life on a Dime for long, you might be aware that our family has spent the last two years exploring Arkansas State Parks. Over the 2024 Christmas Break, the kids got two new stamps in their state park passports. This post features our little day trip to Woolly Hollow State Park in Greenbrier.
If you’re not familiar with Greenbriar ( I sure wasn’t), it’s just under a twenty-minute drive from Conway in Central Arkansas. Woolly Hollow was roughly a two and a half hour drive for us.

now, let’s go for a walk: woolly hollow state park
The park is home to the 40-acre Lake Bennett, which was built in the 1930s as the Soil Conservation Service’s first watershed project.
Visitors can boat, kayak, fish, camp, swim, mountain bike, and enjoy four hiking trails, including a barrier-free paved trail. We trekked parts of the Cabin, Gold Creek and the Huckleberry Nature trails.

The Gold Creek trail connects to the Cabin Trail, which starts right behind an original 1882 family homestead known as the Woolly Cabin. The cabin was moved from its original location less than a mile away and refurbished in the 1970s.
Both the Cabin and the park are named after the family who lived there. It is now located behind the park’s Visitor Center, with a great view from the front porch.

After a fair bit of walking the kids decided it was time to eat. We drive into Conway for a late afternoon meal. We typically look for local eateries while touring the state, and this trip was no different. We ate at The Brick and Forge Taproom downtown. Like many downtown areas, we had to park a block or two away and walk to the restaurant, but parking was free.
speaking of passport stamps…
The kids finally got their stamps for the park closest to home over the break. We live about ten minutes from the Prairie Grove Battlefield Park and visit it frequently, but we never remember to get a stamp. We finally took care of that over Christmas break.

what are you waiting for? let’s go!
Check out our other park visits, tagged as part of the Let’s Go series on the blog. As of this post, we have visited over forty of the fifty-two parks across our state.
