2025 MINIMALISM IN MARCH RECAP

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I love getting rid of stuff. The less stuff you have to deal with the better. So Minimalism in March is one of my favorite challenges here on a Life on a Dime. Any excuse to go through everything and pare down our belongings. Here are the results of Minimalism in March 2025.

2025 minimalism in march recap

I spent three weeks going through the house, room by room. My daughter got into it this time, making things much easier when it was time to go through her clothes.

I didn’t have much to get rid of in the kitchen; I don’t think I got rid of anything, but I did wipe down the cabinet doors and drawers and vacuum crumbs from the lower cabinets. While my efforts may be unnoticeable now, it felt good to get it done.

And it’s always nice to leave town and come home to a fairly clean and tidy house. This part of the challenge worked well with my pre-getaway to do list.

I filled three kitchen-size trash bags full of stuff in good enough condition to donate and took a few things to the resale shop. Naturally I forgot to take pictures of everything before hauling it off, but I did get a few after pictures taken.

I got rid of a good portion of my wardrobe; if it doesn’t fit now or I haven’t worn it in a year, it is no longer in my possession.

I went through every bit of paperwork we own, and referring to Four Tips to Minimize Your Life on Paper, I went about identifying which documents could go and which needed to be scanned before shredded.

I also replaced my old file folders that contain current and past month’s bills as well as current records for the kids, the dog, and notes for the blog. My one desk drawer had become a bit of a catch all, so I pared down its contents as well.

total ITEMS DECLUTTERED 2025 minimalism in march

  • 23 pieces of my clothing
  • 1 pair of boots
  • 5 pieces of my husband’s clothing (that much was hard to do)
  • older paperwork shredded and recycled (did not count pages)
  • 2 sets of bath towels
  • no tie shoe laces (several sizes too small)
  • 40 pieces of our daughter’s clothing
  • 20 pieces of our son’s clothing
  • 1 pair of our son’s shoes
  • 3 charging cords (to ?)
  • 2022 farmer almanac
  • 2 apothecary jars
  • 2 boxes of sidewalk chalk
  • unopened ink cartridge for a printer we no longer own
  • 3 more charging cords to who knows what
  • 4 weight resistance bands
  • 2 books
  • 1 pair of heated gloves that no longer worked
  • 1 animated DVD
  • 9 empty video game cases (not trading them in, so why keep?)

That brings us to a grand total of 109 items decluttered, not including paperwork, in March. That’s from a household that goes through things regularly. The bulk of items decluttered were clothes the kids have outgrown.

Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I was actually kind of surprised we had that much; obviously I need to do this more often. Did you participate in this year’s annual decluttering challenge? If so, how did you do?

That wraps it up for this year’s challenge. Stay frugal and healthy, my friends, and I’ll see you in the next post!
