It’s a new year, and that means it’s time for a new list of books I plan to read. This is my fourth year to do a book list. So without further adieu, here are a few books I plan to read in 2024.

Last year I did quite a bit of reading; not nearly as much as some others, but I did manage to read 35 books. This includes items off of the United Women in Faith reading list, a few new series, and devotionals I completed. And don’t knock the devotionals; that is five days worth of reading, plus looking up referenced scripture. Most averaged at least 200 pages.
For the first time since I started my annual book list, I did not manage to finish ANY of the books on my list before the year ended! So I will have to play catch-up with the 5 Books I Wanted to Read in 2023. I did however buy Things that Matter with a Christmas gift card, so I plan to get through that this month.
I had the privilege of hearing Carey speak in person at a spiritual leadership conference in September and he was very inspiring. To be honest, we bought the book in September and it’s been in my TBR pile since then. I plan to finish this one before January is up.
After I finish this one I have a feeling I will be looking up a few of his other books.
***UPDATE*** After taking four months to start the book, I finished it in two sittings. The advice in this book is solid. I have listened to a few of his leadership podcast episodes on YouTube since, and will definitely read more of Carey’s books.
55 DEVOTIONS INSPIRED BY FEARLESS CHRISTIAN WOMEN IN HISTORY
We happen to live about a half hour away from the Dayspring headquarters. I scooped this title up at their annual warehouse sale for next to nothing. And it just so happens to be available on Kindle Unlimited, so I thought I’d share.
UNFU*K YOURSELF: GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND INTO YOUR LIFE, GARY JOHN BISHOP
Every once in a while I get lucky and find titles I’ve been curious about at Goodwill. I bought this one last year and haven’t gotten around to it yet, so it’s going on the list. This one even has a companion book titled Do The Work.
This book is often bundled with The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson, which I did read on Kindle Unlimited last month and found interesting. Incidentally, this one also has a follow-up book, so we’ll see how far down the rabbit hole I go.
THE 1619 PROJECT: A NEW ORIGIN STORY, Nikole Hannah-Jones
This book was on United Women in Faith’s 2024 reading list. I read a few books off their list last year and was impressed with them all. The book serves as an expansion of a project by the New York Times. The book addresses the lasting impact of slavery in the United States. With almost 15,000 reviews and rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars I expect this one to be quite the eye-opener.
***UPDATE*** This was a hard book to read, but has so much important American history I didn’t learn in school. And I took Pre-AP and AP History. It is definitely a must read if you want to better understand American history and how we ended up with the system in place today. I will never question the legitimacy of people saying our government and it’s programs were designed to keep whole groups of people from succeeding.

I’ve kept this list short in hopes that I will get through the entire list this year. And last year’s. And of course, this list just comprised of books to help me grow as a person and expand my knowledge. I read for pleasure as well.
