Last week my husband took a rare day off and decided to take the family out for a walk on one of the local trails. It was the perfect way to spend a few hours together as a family. Getting out in nature is the perfect way to have some frugal fun in the fall!
Today’s Travel Tuesday post is a small profile on Kessler Mountain Regional Park and Trails in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas has a great trail system, including a bicycle trail that connects several cities. No matter where you live, take the opportunity to get out and explore!
LET’S HIT THE TRAILS FOR SOME FRUGAL FUN IN THE FALL!
If you’re looking for a free way to spend a few hours out in nature in Northwest Arkansas, Mt. Kessler is a great option! The park boasts 680 acres, including 80 of hard surface trails, parking, and ball fields.
Of course, it’s not an actual mountain, but it does currently boast several interconnected trails of varying lengths and difficulty. We took the easiest trail given we had two young kids with us. It was easy to navigate with kids, and took us up to the water tower.
A gravel road offered a straighter path back to the parking area once we made it to the top of the trail. Just past the water tower, there is a grass clearing on the side of the gravel road that would make a great picnic spot.
This is a great spot for families, dogs, and bicyclists alike! We will definitely be going back.
A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS TOO
After making it back to the parking area we took advantage of the clean and relatively new restrooms and then headed to the play area. Naturally, despite complaints of sore legs (and dad carrying the youngest more than half the way), they both had plenty of energy left to explore the play area.

Kessler Mountain is definitely a win in my book with families due to its convenient location and varying trail lengths.
