MY 2022 BUCKET LIST OF BOOKS

A NEW TRADITION?

I published My 2020 Bucket List of Books and it seemed to be a pretty popular post. I’ve even gone back and edited the post as I finished books. Last year I felt a little guilty making a new list before I finished the original. Full disclosure, I still haven’t read all of them yet! But I still stand by my choices and plan to get around to them.

This year I’ve added eight more books to my bucket list for 2022. I am seriously considering signing up for a free Audible trial so I can listen to a few of them I haven’t found at my local library. I’m back at the gym and now have more opportunities to listen to audiobooks. I can read on the treadmill, but I’m not that coordinated so it’s slower going.

MY 2022 BUCKET LIST OF BOOKS

Most of the titles making this year’s list focus on professional or personal development. A few choices reflect my beliefs as well.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

STUPID THINGS I WON’T DO WHEN I GET OLD – STEVEN PETROW

The end of the description of this book states that “Getting older is a privilege. This essential guide reveals how to do it with grace, wisdom, humor, and hope. And without hoarding.” What started as a humorous list of everything the author thought his aging parents were doing wrong is also said to contain practical advice.

It looks like an interesting, yet lighthearted read so I added it to the list.

***UPDATE*** I read this and it was both hilarious and heartbreaking. It gives you something to think about. I would recommend this one.

THE MISTER ROGERS EFFECT – ANITA KNIGHT KUHNLEY

This book discusses seven principles, or secrets to “bring out the best in yourself and others” based on America’s favorite neighbor.

***UPDATE*** I finished this book and now I want to read more about him! Listening to hear and understand instead of to respond is so hard, but something I really need to work on.

FLAT BROKE WITH TWO GOATS – -JENNIFER MCGAHA

I’ll admit, I was attracted to the title, but after reading the description, I really want to read this book! Other people’s honest accounts of their personal finance journeys tend to draw me in. Add humor and goats into the mix, and who wouldn’t want to read it?

***UPDATE*** I checked this one out from the library this summer and read it. To be honest it was more helpful from a goat-raising and recipe standpoint than it was anything finance related. And it left you wondering how their financial situation is now.

Are they still flat-broke? Still married? Have they stopped making the same decisions (or lack of) that left them broke to begin with? It was mostly about the things she distracted herself with during the mess. I could take this one or leave it.

13 THINGS MENTALLY STRONG PARENTS DON’T DO – AMY MORIN

I don’t typically read a lot of parenting books. I read one when I worked full-time and had a small child in daycare. It made me feel so incredibly guilty I have become pretty disinterested in the genre altogether. But I do like the premise of this book and I do want to raise children who are self-assured and have the tools needed to do well in life.

The author is a foster parent as well as an expert in family and teen therapy. She identified characteristics shared by “mentally strong” people and then strove to give parents the tools to instill these characteristics in their children. I’m curious to see what she has to say.

SUSTAINABLE MINIMALISM – STEFANIE MARIE SEFERIAN

This book is meant to serve as a realistic guide to the concept. It is something I both strive for and struggle with, so I am interested to see what advice the author has for practicing eco-minimalism.

I always find it interesting to see how different peoples’ views of minimalism are; the concept runs the gamut from living in a museum to asking yourself if every item “sparks joy.” I like the idea of an approach that is eco-friendly and sustainable.

THE CLUTTER CONNECTION – CASSANDRA AARSSEN

Apparently, we each have a unique organizing personality type. This book has me interested to find mine. It’s always fun to learn more about how our brains work and “why” we behave in certain ways. This feels like the enneagram of the organizing world.

Considering that I went down the enneagram rabbit hole during the whole mess that was 2020, I have a feeling this one might be fun.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

THE SERVING MINDSET – FARNOOSH BROCK

This book focuses on the difference between serving and selling. I really like that distinction. The book has some good reviews as well, so I added it to the list.

CALLED TO CREATE – JORDAN RAYNOR

This book is geared towards authors, writers, artists, and content creators in general. It talks about how your creative outlet can be considered a calling. It also profiles over 40 Christian entrepreneurs of very well-known companies.

As I stated earlier, I’ll keep providing updates for both bucket lists of books as I read them and let you know what I thought.
