This amish-style white bread is a staple item in our house. I make it regularly for my husband's lunches. It is great for hot sandwiches as well!

Dissolve the sugar in the warm water in a large bowl before stirring in yeast. Let the yeast proof until it becomes a creamy looking foam.
Mix in the salt and oil. Add flour in one cup at a time. Knead the dough until it is smooth. Place in a second, well oiled bowl ( I like coconut oil) and turn the dough to coat it with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for about an hour. It should double in bulk.
Punch the dough down, knead it for a second time, and place into a well oiled bread pan (or, I like to line mine with foil for easier cleanup). Let rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
