2025 MINIMALISM IN MARCH: WEEK ONE

It’s officially March! Congratulations for surviving the month if you participated in No Spend February. We’re on to the next challenge! It’s week one of Minimalism in March. Today’s post will outline this week’s decluttering challenges.

This is actually the SIXTH year we’ve done the Minimalism in March challenge in the a Life on a Dime house! It’s looked a little different every year; the first year I just talked about all the great reasons to be minimalist and gave general decluttering tips on physical, digital, and emotional clutter.

And we’ll probably do a bit of that as well (it’s a subject I enjoy all year long), but this month we’ll organize it with weekly challenges. Every Monday a new post will go out with the week’s challenge outlining the specific plan of attack for these rooms/areas.

In addition, a bonus challenge will be issued in the Meal Plan Monday newsletter. So if you’re not a Frugal Friend of the Blog, you’ll want to fix that before next week’s challenge arrives!

Week One challenge: the kitchen

We’re jumping right in this week with the project I need to tackle most and enjoy the least! This week we will clean and declutter the kitchen. This will include:

  • Declutter & wipe down countertops
  • Wipe down cabinet door & drawer faces
  • Declutter food storage areas & vacuum inside cabinets where needed
  • Inventory pantry items for meal planning purposes
  • Inspect any food storage containers for proper closure & cleanliness, discard or donate as needed
  • Clean out the fridge and remove any expired products
  • Clean out the microwave
  • Clean the floors

Most of these items get done on some level most weeks, but it’s always good to go through things cabinet by cabinet and get rid of what isn’t needed.

I also like to identify items needed as I work, and start a list for those.

Minimalism in March Week one: bathrooms

It’s been a while since I’ve been through every cabinet, drawer, and shelf. That’s precisely what I plan to do this week. Tasks on the to do list this week include:

  • Clean mirrors, shower, toilets, countertops, and sinks
  • Reorganize towels and washcloths
  • Go through all the random things under the sinks
  • Go through the drawers – empty, wipe down, and organize
  • Reorganize linen closet shelf by shelf

As in the kitchen, I will be making note of anything needed. I don’t anticipate a lengthy shopping list for either room.

good luck with this week’s minimalism in march challenge!

I will set a goal to get rid of five items in each room decluttered this week, which shouldn’t be too hard. To be honest we usually have a donate bag or box to place items we no longer want in the laundry room. I simply drop it all off at a charity shop whenever there’s a decent size haul.

Be sure to check out today’s newsletter for a bonus Minimalism in March decluttering challenge, and the weekly meal plan. Until next time, stay frugal and healthy. And have fun simplifying your life one room at a time!
