GET YOUR JUNE BUDGET READY NOW!

June budget

Hey frugal friends! May is winding down, which means it’s time to get your June budget ready for action! It’s always best not to wait till the absolute last minute (or second day of a new month) to get that budget hammered out.

Here are my tips on getting your June budget ready and a few things you’ll probably want to include…

EXPENSES TO INCLUDE WHEN GETTING YOUR JUNE BUDGET READY

FATHER’S DAY

Dad’s big day here in the US is coming up fast. This year it is on the 21st. Make sure you’ve budgeted what you can to make the Dad’s in your life feel appreciated. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you do need to get it in the budget in advance!

And be sure to include time for any gifts to ship!

SUMMER CAMPS & ACTIVITIES

If you plan to put your kids in summer camp or other activities (as in where will they be when you’re at work?) you need to plan it in the budget as well.

Even if you won’t be sending your kids to away or day camp you will need to keep them entertained all summer long. Keep that in mind while getting your June budget ready.

We’re sending our daughter to away camp for the first time this June, and I have a running shopping list in my head I need to get on paper and in the budget as soon as possible.

SWIM LESSONS ANYONE?

If you’re able to get your kids into summer swimming lessons make sure you get it in the budget. This is an important skill to learn and it does take money. So don’t forget about it when you get your June budget ready.

VACATION SINKING FUND

If you have a sense of wanderlust then it’s a great idea to sock a little away each month when you can to make it happen. When you get your June budget ready be sure to consider this one.

BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING & EXPENSES

The kids go back to school in mid-August, but there’s no reason you can’t budget for the expense over the course of the summer, especially if you think the expense will be bigger!

Don’t get blindsided and tempted to swipe the credit card the month school starts because you didn’t plan ahead.

I don’t know about you, but my kids go through clothes faster than they can outgrow them this time of year with all the time spent outdoors. Second-hand or thrift store finds are always great to get you through the summer.

I prefer second hand, but budget for purchasing new just in case.

SPEAKING OF CLOTHING, NEED ANY FALL OR WINTER PIECES? START BUDGETING NOW

Bigger expenses tend to be more manageable if you save for them in advance. If you know you’ll need something more expensive in the fall or winter (quality coat, snow boots, etc) then start saving now.

Even if you don’t end up making the purchase, you’ll have the money saved. That’s always a win in my book!

INCREASED UTILITY BILLS

With June comes warmer temperatures, and if you live in a warmer climate you’ll need to allow for higher utility bills when the air conditioner kicks on.

If you will be going back to work outside of the house or just planning to get out and about more it’s also worth noting you will want to budget more for gas or other transportation costs.

WEDDING SEASON

It’s wedding season! Know any engaged couples? Take that into account when you sit down to write out your budget.

THESE ARE JUST A FEW SUGGESTIONS, YOUR JUNE BUDGET MAY LOOK A LOT DIFFERENT

Just make sure it’s ready! Think now about what you have coming up over the next three months (yes, you read that right: three) and decide if need be they are accounted for in your June budget.

Have a big expense coming up in August or September? Why not account for it now and break it up into halves or thirds? It’ll make things so much easier than if you try to cram it all in the month of.

It’ll also save you an unaccounted swipe to that high-interest credit card. Speaking of credit cards, do you have credit card debt? Make it a point to budget for more than just the minimum payment in June? You have a lot to gain and nothing to lose (except all that money you’ll pay in interest in the future).

  1. Love this post! I budget every month and forget to include summer activities, like I have grad parties and a wedding. I have to budget new clothing options for them. Thanks for reminding me, and thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you for reading Megan!

  2. We definitely have to plan for higher energy bills here during the summer season. We have an above ground pool in the back yard and the power needed to run the pump on that can add up quite a bit. In addition to the change in energy levels, we also have to factor in the costs for necessary pool chemicals, etc. You’ve got some great tips here! It’s hard to believe that it’s almost June already!!!

    1. I know, isn’t it? Tomorrow! Seems like March and April crept by and May flew! Have fun in the pool this summer!

  3. I don’t really have anything to budget for, I normally just play it by ear as I go along. Although I try to move a set amount into a small saving pot each month nowadays

    1. It’s great that you’re trying to save every month!
